Since she wasn’t against rule breaking, Alex left the common room about midnight on Thursday. She wanted to look at the sky. The night sky was the most beautiful. She knew that she would probably get detention if she were caught, though she would be doing homework. That's what she would tell them anyways. Would they really give him detention for that? Alex was careful to make sure that no teachers or prefects were around to catch her.
She made it to the staircase without being caught and ran up the steps. Hopefully the classroom was empty. It was just her luck that a prefect or teachers would already be there, waiting to catch anyone that dared to come up here after curfew. She slowed down when she was nearing the top and crept slowly and silently to the classroom door and pushed it open slightly. There was nobody inside and Alex sighed with relief.
She went over to the telescope and peered through it. The sky was clear, so she could see the stars clearly. She was so immersed with watching the sky that she didn't hear anyone enter the classroom.

Dreams are a beautiful thing, you get to escape your own reality for a while and fall into the mystical realm of a dream. What's not so nice is when one of your best friends wake you ten minutes before midnight to tell you that the Slytherin prefect isn't showing up and that the professor wants you to take her shift. Well, Alice Logan had gone through just that awful situation. The day had been long, so long that Ally had crawled up the stairs and fallen asleep in her bed, still completely dressed. Well now, at two minutes past twelve, Ally walked around the deserted corridors of the castle in exactly what she'd worn previously that day. She stifled a yawn with the cornflower yellow sleeve of her worn sweater. Gosh that sweater was old, she'd been wearing it since she was thirteen and to be honest, the five foot two girl hadn't grown since then. It still fell just above her knees as it had back then.
Why was it that the prefects needed to go on these dumb patrols? It wasn't like anything exciting happened more than once or twice a year. Something fell upstairs, making her yelp. Everything's scarier at night. Darn Slytherins she thought bitterly. She hoped that the Slytherins would lose points for their carelessness, but somehow she doubted it. It was highly unlikely that Slytherin would lose any points or that Gryffindor would gain any for her sacrifice that night. Ally was feeling quite bitter, but she was too tired to feel the full extent of anger she might have.
Last room, she decided as she began the climb to the astronamy tower her eyes dull. She expected to poke her head through the door and then crawl back to bed, exhausted, but no. There was somebody there, peering into the telescope. "Hey!" her voice wasn't very loud, but it held authority. "What do you think you're..." she stopped as the long brown hair and laxidazical stance registered. "God Alex," Ally scowlded her friend. "You really should try and get some sleep." Her own tired eyes longed to simply close and let herself drift away into the world of dreams. Alex on the other hand, chose to stay awake. She shook her head, she would never understand that girl. Alex turned around and smirked at her friend. " I could say the same thing to you Ally." replied Alex. She reached forward and grabbed her friend's hand and pulled her into a desk, sitting in the desk next to her. Alex and Ally had been really good friends for a long time. The only thing they probably disagreed on was Sirius Black, one of Alex's best friends. Alice hated him while Alexander thought he was really funny. Sirius was like her older brother and so were the other boys. But Alex had never dated any boy...ever. Everyone thought she had a crush on either Sirius or Remus and honestly she'd never crushed on any of them. She wanted to see how the boy's would react if she got a boyfriend, which is why she suddenly got so serious at that moment. She looked into Ally's eyes. Her shy friend was awesome and amazing. " What do you think about me dating a boy to play a prank on the boys?" she asked her. Lily, Alice, Lucy and Alex always called the Marauders, the boys. Just because it was more convenient than actually saying, the Marauders because in a way Alex was a Marauder. She began running through boys in her mind that she knew would be willing to prank the boys. Jake Taylor, John Brown, maybe...Regulus Black? No that would make Sirius kill either her or Regulus. Alex actually had a crush on Regulus Black, but she'd never told anyone. Regulus was the prince of Slytherin, the highest seventh year Slytherin boy. and he probably hated her. So...about that Potions essay........." started Alex absentmindedly twisting her finger around her hair. Ally probably knew what was going to happen next. This is how Alex ALWAYS started before getting her friends to help her with homework. If it was Lily they would argue back and forth and Lily would leave the room or ignore her and then finally cave. With Ally, it was different every time.

Alex spun around and Ally's robin's egg eyes looked her friend over. She yawned, gosh she was exhausted. She laughed half-heartedly at Alex's comment. She was really too tired to take anything in completely, even her best friend's antics. Ally rubbed her eyes, trying desperately to stay awake. "What are you even doing up here?" Ally yawned again. "We don't have any work in astrology" If it were up to her she would be asleep in her bed, dreaming happily. She certainly wouldn't be standing up in the astronomy tower wearing her puppy dog slippers and clothes she'd fallen asleep in. Only her shining prefect badge was something she would normally have worn on a 'hall patrol'. If a professor saw her they would probably tell her off severely. Not like it was her fault. Stupid, stupid Slytherins.
Alex got that look in her eyes. That strange and abnormal for Alex look. It was her being serious. "What do you think about me dating a boy to play a prank on the boys?" Was she serious!? That was a pretty big prank. Of course, this was Alex she was talking about. The seventh year would stop at nothing to pull the greatest pranks of all time. She was sure that Alex could stand up the marauders if she really wanted to. "I dunno Alex..." Ally paused. This wasn't something you could just do, dating someone could be serious, unless they wanted to joke around with it too. "What if they take it seriously?" Ally's eyes were full of concern. This was one of those pranks which could go horribly wrong. She was worrying about this when a thought struck her: "Alex..." she started cautiously, she wasn't sure if this was a good idea, but she'd started and she knew that she needed to finish it because eventually Alex would weasle the idea out of her anyways. "Is there... someone you actually want to date?" she was glad it was dark because the flush on her cheeks after having asked this was quite prominent.
Alex changed the subject pretty quickly which made Ally shake her head. Ah the famous first line. Anyone who knew Alex well knew what was coming up next. She decided to start by playing dumb. "Yeah, I've finished it. The one on Polyjuice Potion, Amortentia, Veritaserum and Felix Felicis?" she shot Alex a sideways glance, but she knew she hadn't convinced her friend. "Alex..." she sighed dejectedly "You're never going to learn if I do it for you." Outfit

" Sirius bet me the star Draco wouldn't be out tonight. I bet him it would and I won." said Alex a truimphiant smile on her face. She normally won the bets between her and Sirius. However the bets between James and her she didn't always win. Alex didn't mind weird many things in the world she lived in were weird. Alex closed her eyes and walked over to the door. She leaned against the wall on the other side of the door so that she didn't close it for the case of a teacher climbing the stairs to see if there were any students out of bed. Alex didn't worry that much about hiding. If a teacher came up and if they caught the two students Alex could easily talk herself out of whatever trouble. Except detention, she liked some detentions. Some were actually fun and if she was lucky she's just get away with magic and Alex was unusually almost always lucky. " We would tell them it was to prank the boys so they wouldn't get their hopes up!" said Alex as if it was the most obvious thing in the whole world. " Ally!" exclaimed Alex surprised that her friend would suggest that the girl who only thought of boys as friends would actually WANT to date someone willingly. " Of course I will. I didn't get two O's in my O.W.L.S for nothing!" She got up and moved to sit in front of her friend. She got on her knees suddenly. " PLEASE ALLY! PLEASE HELP ME!" she didn't yell but said it as if it were important.

Ally looked out the window at the the indigo sky dotted with the lights of stars. It really was beautiful. She couldn't help but get to thinking that compared to the earth she was miniscule and compared to some of the stars millions of light years away that she could still see from the window, the earth was minisucle. It was humbling to imagine herself compared to it. Sirius Black could certainly use the jolt into reality. The world didn't revolve around him. You like him, a voice taunted her. She shut it up quickly. How could she possible like Sirius Black? He was a player who thought way too much of himself for his own good. She smiled softly at Alex and sighed. Of course Alex would have made a bet with Black. It would be unlike her not to. She was glad Alex had won though. "I'm glad you won. Black really needs to be put in his place." Ally could rant on and on about how great Sirius Black thinks he is.
She honestly wasn't surpised by Alex's reaction. Alex always seemed to think that she couldn't possible see boys in that way. Ally giggled slightly. "You're a seventeen year old girl, unless you're a lesbian you must have some interest in boys." her voice held a joking tone, but in the end, she didn't completely believe that Alex had zero interest in any boys. There had to be someone. She just wouldn't press her, that was Alex's buisness, not hers.
She shook her head. "I'll help you out," she relented. "But you have to do some work," she nearly added unlike last time but she didn't. This showed impressive self restraint on her part. Alex needed to get a move on, N.E.W.Ts were harder than owls by a long shot, somehow she was dubious that Alex would pass on sheer dumb luck. Outfit

Alex ignored Ally's first comment. She was used to her friend's apparent hatred for Sirius Black. She claimed to hate him, that he was a prat and all the other flaws she could point out in him, like Lily did with James. She couldn't wait till she won those bets either. She had bet Sirius that James would get Lily and she had bet Peter that Ally and Sirius would end up in a broom closet snogging. Alex definatly wasn't the most child apporpriate person when it came down to boys and girls. Everyone knew that. She hung around immature boys all day long and they were her best friends. How could she be extremely appropriate when she hung out with the Marauders of all people. McGonagall had stopped hoping that Alex would grow up a long time ago. Well, two weeks into first year. Alex had made friends with the boys on the train and hadn't befriended Lily, Lucy, or Ally till second year. " Ally!" whined Alex. " I'm sixteen! Alex was the youngest of the seventh years yet she couldn't be a sixth year because of her birth date. " Wait...that's a good idea. I'll become a lesbian! Nah I hate all girls except you, Lily, and Lucy. But I still have no interest in boys. Me dating a boy for real is like you never ending up dating Sirius Black and falling in love iwth him." She knew this would drive Ally insane. Ally and Lily both claimed to hate guys that were best friends with Alex. Typical of her friends. Well she had to admit the Marauders were cute but she'd never date them. It was against Marauder rules ever since Alex found out about Remus' "furry little secret". " Alright!" Alex agreed happily. She knew what was going to happen. She was just going to write it while Ally went on explaining about everything. Whenever you got either Lily or Ally on a subject you couldn't get them off. " What to do think of Sirius Black?" she asked her friend expecting her to go off into a rant. At least it would keep Alex up, knowing what her friend thought of Sirius or claimed to think. She usually did this to both Ally and Lily. Trying to get them to say that they loved either boy by mistake. Ah, Alex and her antics.

Ally noticed that Alex had ignored her first comment. Of course Alex would. Sirius and Alex were pretty tight. They were pretty good friends. This sometimes became frustrating since the small blonde girl couldn't stand the boy. She let Alex be friends with him even though if she could avoid it, she didn't spend time with him. Are there reasons for that? That stupid, obnoxious voice which often taunted her cruely spoke up. Yes, there are reasons for that," Ally logical side fought back He's annoying and self-centered. She could almost picture the voice shaking it's head. She had to deny any involvement with Sirius Black. She had to deny any feelings for him. She had to be strong, for herself, for her friends, for everyone. Sirius would only hurt her and God knows that it wouldn't be any good if Ally had her heart shattered like the most delicate porceline.
Ally laughed again, a soft, but pleasent laugh. "You'll be seventeen soon enough. Either way," Her blueish green eyes studied her friend carefully "Some third years have dated more than you." She shook her head, occasionnally you'd walk into a broom closet and find two third years snogging. It was quite comical to witness really. Ally brushed a lock of blonde hair which had fallen into her face away from her. "You have no interest in dating, what so ever?" Ally hadn't dated, she'd had a crush on a boy once. He'd told her he loved her and kissed another girl. Ally really hadn't shown that much interest in boys since. You always go for the bad boys. she pushed it to the back of her mind.
Me dating a boy for real is like you never ending up dating Sirius Black and falling in love with him. Ally slapped Alex's shoulder lightly. "So who's the boy you're going to start dating?" She asked, she was unimpressed with this. Alex sometimes said things which reminded her that her friend was as immature as some boys. "I know I won't be dating or falling in love with Sirius Black anytime soon." she shuddered as if just the name made her sick. This wasn't strictly true. The name didn't make her feel sick, it provoked a strange feeling she just couldn't put words to. She turned to Alex, why was her friend pushing the issue with Sirius? Wait! There's no issue, Sirius was just another marauder. Just another boy. She shook her head hopelessly. "I've made myself pretty clear, Sirius Black is a good for nothing player who thinks too much of himself. I could probably shrink his head, but I need a good spell to shrink his ego." Ally sighed, shaking her head again. Sirius thought he was all that. So way. He got girls and then dumped them. He was such a player. If Ally actually liked a guy, she'd go for a good guy. But then again, she'd been notorious for going for the bad boys... Outfit

"Ally do I really have to answer you that question?' asked Alex smirking. "Some third yeard are annoying." said Alex going over to a desk and sitting in it. She leaned back comfortably. "Actually all third years are annoying." she commented then stood up. She took her wand and cast a spell on the roof so that it looked like the night sky. She turned to the desks and everything disappeared with a flick of her wand. She has always been really good at nonverbal spells. On the floor now was two sleeping bags. Alex gestered to the bags on the floor. She pointed her wand over to the door and locked it, not that it would do any good, but the astronomy tower was ALWAYS locked so no one would notice anything different. "We're not going to be able to go back to the dorm anytime later tonight."
"No clue." she said. Alex laughed silently. Sure her friend would never fall for Sirius Black, every girl did at a time. Except Alex, he was like her brother so that would be to....weird, gross, disgusting and way to many other words. Alex blinked in surprise. She expected more than that from her friend. More things that she hated about Sirius Black and maybe even something about the way Sirius treated girls.

Something about this conversation left Sirius Black written all across Alice Logan's mind. Sirius was like that annoying sticky thing that gets stuck to your elbow, then when you try to pluck it off it get's stuck to your hand, then while trying to get it off, you get it stuck to your jeans. No matter how hard you try, it's still stuck to you. That's how Sirius Black was. It was easy to have him stuck on your mind because where ever you went to try and avoid the thought of him, someone brought him up. Or he walked around the corner or sometimes he even ran right into you. Either way, he somehow always managed to stick to you like that annoying peice of sticky stuff you just can't get rid of. Sirius. Gosh he was a constant frustration. She wanted to shake her head desperately to try and rid herself of the thought of the gryffindor boy. She also wanted to bang her head against the wall until she either passed out or forgot completely about Sirius. Both of those would be blantantly obvious and the latter would be slightly painful too.
Ally forced herself to stay at Hogwarts and not wander off into lala land where Sirius Black wasn't a player and she got along with him. She kept her eyes focused on Alex though really, she was taking part in an inner war with Sirius Black and herself. What did she think of Sirius? She was so conflicted. No. She couldn't let these stupid, unrealistic and unbased feelings take control of her. She blinked and forced herself to look at Alex. Her friend was sitting in a sleeping bag on the floor. Had Alex said something? She opened her eyes like one usually does after they zone out and then come back to earth. "Hmm? Sorry, I didn't catch that," she flushed a light hue of pink. Focus Ally she scolded herself, she had to focus else Alex, being Alex, would probably panic, think her soul was possessed and then either try and throw her out the window or she'd get scared and call the nurse up in the morning. Well, maybe that was an exageration. Alex would probably freak out, maybe not to that extent, but a freak out, none the less.
There was something in the way Alex answered without more than two words and a surprised blink that worried Ally. What was the brunette girl thinking? Well, it's difficult for anyone to really know, this worried Ally a bit. She watched her friends face carefully, mixture amusement and surprise were written all across her face. Ally flopped down beside Alex on the empty sleeping bag and looked her friend over carefully. "What's up?" Ally asked, her eyes were cautious. She was wondering what was up with Alex. It wasn't like her friend to act like this. It wasn't like Alex to be so quiet. The price of Alex's silence, Ally was beginning to think, might be her sanity. Then again, Alex might just make a joke at her expense and be done with. Outfit

"Nothing never mind." said Alex and she looked back a her friend. "What were you thinking abou?" She asked Ally. Ally always payed attention, always. She wasn't normally like Alex who always spaced off. Alex had ADHD so it was easy for her to do those sort of things. Everyone a Hogwars knew about her hyperacivity and they normally asked her if she was ADHD and so now everyone knew she had the disorder. Not that she didn't mind the other students might treat her really mean just because she was different. She just didn't care. It was their problem and their problem alone.
"The sky." Alex replied smartly and laid down looking up at the sky. At her parents house she would get smacked for saying somehing smart like that. She looked over at her friend, then back up a the sky. She began tracing the stars with her hand. Draco, her brother's name. He was named after the star. Lyra, her cousin also named after a star. Orion, Sirius' middle name. The sars basically had her life in their hands. She trused the stars in every way. She almost worshipped them.

Some days, everything seems more suspicious than it really is. It's only accented when you're trying to focus on the odd details in things because suddenly you're picking up things which previously, you wouldn't or couldn't have bothered to notice. Well, Ally's preocupation with not thinking about Sirius Black was nearly leading her to paranoia. She was trying desperately to preoccupy herself, her mind, with anything other than suspicion that Alex was inwardly laughing at her for not knowing something everyone else knew... or Sirius. God, she just didn't want to think. She threw herself backwards so that her head thumped heavily against the pillow. She stared upwards at the stars and let her mind fly amongst their heavenly ranks. Stars are really such a miracle if you think about it. Even though they're so far away, people, like Ally, like Alex, on earth, can see them. They're beautiful too, little dots of light against a dark sky.
All of the attempts at not thinking of Sirius were gone when Alex asked what she'd been thinking about. Ally closed her eyes peacefully and let her inner demons battle. She wasn't sure what to make of Sirius, she hadn't been twenty seconds ago and she was still unsure now. She frowned, eyes still closed. She needed to make a desicion, right? Or did she? With Alex as a friend, she was somehow dubious it would even be possible to avoid Sirius all together. Acutally, even if she had simply been another girl, she was sure, even then, it would be impossible to avoid Sirius. He was irritating in the sense that he was impossible to shurg off. She sighed and rolled over to look at Alex. "I wasn't really thinking of much." This wasn't technically a lie as she considered Sirius to be 'not much'. "I'm just a little tired. The potions work was draining." She knew Alex wouldn't be able to go against for her by saying that the potions work had been easy since she knew her friend hadn't done it.
Ally rolled her eyes and lightly knocked Alex over the head. "Thanks tips" she laughed lightly. At least Alex would always have a sense of humor, even when Ally felt as though she might explode from this completely dreadful inner confusion. Ally rolled back over to face the indigo night sky with the beautiful fiery sparks of light coming from the stars. Of course, even on a night such as this, where the stars were quite bright, you wouldn't be able to rely soully on them for light. Though, the moon which, Ally noticed, was almost full, might provide some excess light. "Look at the moon" she said absently, motioning towards the almost complete circle of shining white/yellow.
